Bishop Thomas Approves Personnel Assignments

Following consultation with the Vicar for Clergy and the Personnel Board, Bishop George Leo Thomas announces the following Priest and Deacon assignments, effective July 1, 2016.

Fathers John Abutu, Micah Bagayang, and Elias Kabuk, priests of the Archdiocese of Kaduna in Nigeria, have the permission of their Archbishop to serve in the Diocese of Helena for four years. The beginning date for each is dependent upon their acquisition of a Visa from the US Embassy in Nigeria; the assignment for each will be determined upon arrival in the Diocese. The potential assignments are: Parochial Vicar for Saint Mathew Parish, Kalispell; Parochial Vicar for Butte Parishes; Priestly Ministry for Saint Michael Parish, Conrad, and Saint William-Guardian Angel Parish in Dutton-Power.

Father Brian Bergeron – Pastor of Saint Joseph Parish in Choteau and Pastor of Saint John the Evangelist Parish in Fairfield with Saint Matthias Mission in Augusta, for a six-year term [currently assigned as Administrator for those Parishes]

Father Patrick Beretta –Incardinated into the Diocese of Helena on July 1, 2016; assigned as Pastor, Butte Catholic Community North, for a six-year term

Father Vitus Borogo – will be leaving the Diocese December 31, 2016 to return to his native Archdiocese of Kaduna in Nigeria   {Presently providing priestly ministry for Saint Michael Parish in Conrad and for Saint William-Guardian Angel Parish in Dutton-Power, and pursuing graduate studies at the University of Great Falls}

Sister Barbara Brown, OP – resigning her position as Parish Administrator for Sacred Heart Parish in Ronan with Saint Joseph Mission in Charlo in order to pursue retirement ministry near family in Billings, Montana

Deacon James Butts – relieved of his responsibilities as Pastoral Administrator of Saint John Paul II Parish in Bigfork with Our Lady of the Swan Valley Mission, Condon. He is being assigned as Deacon for Saint John Paul II Parish with Our Lady of the Swan Valley Mission.

Father John Crutchfield – Pastor of the Madison County Catholic Community (Saint Patrick Parish, Ennis; Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish, Laurin; and Saint Joseph Parish, Sheridan) for a six-year term {Presently Parochial Vicar for the Cathedral of Saint Helena and Parochial Vicar for Saint Catherine Parish, Boulder}

Deacon Andy Dorrington – Senior Status, residing in the Polson area   [Presently Pastoral Administrator for Saint Patrick Parish, Ennis, Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish, Laurin, and Saint Joseph Parish, Sheridan]

Father Roderick Ermatinger – relieved of his responsibilities as Canonical Pastor for Saint John Paul II Parish in Bigfork with Our Lady of the Swan Valley Mission; retains his assignment as Pastor of Saint Matthew Parish in Kalispell

Father Joseph Finnegan – Relieved of his priestly responsibilities for Saint Patrick Parish, Ennis; Saint Mary of the Assumption Parish, Laurin; and Saint Joseph Parish, Sheridan; returning to full Senior Status in the Diocese

Father Jeffrey Fleming – Canonical Pastor for Saint Michael Parish in Drummond and Canonical Pastor for Saint Philip Parish in Philipsburg (in addition to his assignments as Pastor of Christ the King Parish in Missoula and Pastor of Saint John Parish Frenchtown with Saint Albert Mission in Alberton and Saint Mary Queen of Heaven Mission in Superior)

Father Thomas Haffey – relieved of his responsibilities as Canonical Pastor of the parishes of the Butte Catholic Community North, while retaining his assignments as Pastor of Saint Ann Parish and Pastor of Holy Spirit Parish in Butte.

Father Craig Hanley – Relieved of his responsibilities as Parochial Vicar for Saint Matthew Parish in Kalispell, and assigned as Pastor, Saint John Paul II Parish in Bigfork with Our Lady of the Swan Valley Mission, Condon, for a six-year term

Father Richard Kluk – Parochial Vicar for Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish, East Helena, with Saint John Mission, Clancy; and Parochial Vicar for Holy Cross Parish, Townsend, with Our Lady of the Lake Mission at Canyon Ferry, for a three-year term {Presently Parochial Vicar for Saint William Parish in Shelby with Saint Thomas Mission in Sunburst, Saint Margaret Parish in Cut Bank, and Saint Francis Parish in Valier with Holy Cross Mission in Dupuyer}

Father Christopher Lebsock – Parochial Vicar for the Cathedral of Saint Helena for a three-year term, and Parochial Vicar for Saint Catherine Parish, Boulder for a three-year term; he will serve as Chaplain at Legendary Lodge from July 1 through August 15, 2016. {Presently: Graduate Studies in Rome}

Father Marc Lenneman – Chaplain at Carroll for an additional three-year term

Kirby Longo   Following his ordination as transitional deacon scheduled on June 24, he will be assigned as Deacon at Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish in East Helena. Subsequently, he is assigned to complete his studies at Saint John Vianney Theological Seminary.

Father Hugo Lungu, a priest of the Archdiocese of Songea in Tanzania – weekend ministry at Saint Michael Parish in Drummond and Saint Philip Parish in Philipsburg, while pursuing doctoral studies at the University of Montana, Missoula, with residence at the rectory in Frenchtown {Presently Parochial Vicar for Christ the King Parish in Missoula and for Saint John Parish in Frenchtown with Saint Albert Mission in Alberton and Saint Mary Queen of Heaven Mission in Superior}

Father Stan Malnar – retiring from his responsibilities at Providence Hospital in Spokane, effective July 1, 2016; Senior Status in the Diocese effective January 1, 2017, residing in Spokane

Deacon Bernie McCarthy – relieved of his responsibilities as Pastoral Administrator of Saint Teresa of Avila Parish in Whitehall, with Notre Dame Mission in Twin Bridges. He is being assigned to diaconal ministry at Butte Catholic Community North for a three-year term; and will be employed as financial administrator at Saint Ann Parish in Butte

Father John Miller – resigning his position as Pastor of Saint Richard Parish, Columbia Falls and being assigned to residence in Missoula and availability for substitution as arranged [Senior Status to be granted at his 70th birthday.]

Father Timothy Moriarty – Canonical Pastor for Saint Michael Parish in Conrad and for Saint William – Guardian Angel Parish in Dutton – Power, in addition to his current assignment as Pastor of Saint William Parish in Shelby with Saint Thomas Mission in Sunburst, Saint Margaret Parish in Cut Bank, Saint Francis Parish in Valier with Holy Cross Mission in Dupuyer.

Deacon Andy Morrow – Leave of Absence for continuing discernment

Monsignor Kevin O’Neill – Canonical Pastor of Saint Therese of Avila Parish, Whitehall, with Notre Dame Mission in Twin Bridges; and Mentor for Father John Crutchfield; in addition to his assignments as Vicar General, Pastor/Rector of the Cathedral of Saint Helena, and Pastor of Saint Catherine Parish in Boulder with Saint John the Evangelist Church in the Boulder Valley

Joseph Paddock   Following his ordination as transitional deacon scheduled on June 24, he will be assigned as Deacon at Saint Matthew Parish, Kalispell. Subsequently, he is assigned to complete his studies at Mount Angel Seminary.

Father Sean Raftis – Pastor, Saint Richard Parish, Columbia Falls, for a six-year term {Presently Pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Townsend with Our Lady of the Lake Mission at Canyon Ferry}

Father Gary Reller – relieved of his responsibilities as Canonical Pastor for Saint Michael Parish in Conrad, for Saint William – Guardian Angel Parish in Dutton – Power, for Saint Joseph Parish in Choteau, and for Saint John the Evangelist Parish in Fairfield with Saint Matthias Mission in Augusta

Father John Robertson – relieved of responsibilities as Canonical Pastor for the Madison County Catholic Community and as Canonical Pastor for the Flint Creek Catholic Community; and relieved of responsibilities as Director of Deacons; he retains his other assignments

Deacon Michael Seipp – Director of Deacons for Diocese of Helena for a three-year term; and providing diaconal ministry at Saint Mary Catholic Community for a three-year term {Presently providing diaconal ministry at Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish, East Helena}

Father Miroslaw Szynal, a priest of the Diocese of Koszalin-Kolobrzeg in Poland – Administrator, Saint Teresa of Avila Parish, Whitehall, with Notre Dame Mission, Twin Bridges, for a one-year term

Sister Patricia Toeckes, SCL – another three-year term as Pastoral Administrator for Our Lady of the Pines Parish, West Yellowstone, with Saint Joseph Mission at Big Sky

Father Bart Tolleson – Pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Townsend, with Our Lady of the Lake Church at Canyon Ferry for a six-year term – in addition to his assignment as Pastor of Saints Cyril and Methodius Parish, East Helena, with Saint John Mission in Clancy

Father Cody Williams – Parochial Vicar for Christ the King Parish, Missoula, for a three-year term; and Parochial Vicar for Saint John the Baptist Parish, Frenchtown, with Saint Albert Mission in Alberton and Saint Mary Queen of Heaven Mission in Superior, for a three-year term.
